The Second Industrial Revolution

Posted by brittgillette on 17th May 2009

The Second Industrial RevolutionLast month, Fox News interviewed world famous physics professor Michio Kaku to discuss the creation of a revolutionary battery by Angela Belcher of MIT…

Watch Michio Kaku on Fox News

But the star of the discussion wasn’t Belcher’s breakthrough or battery technology itself, but rather an entirely new phase of technological development, which Prof. Kaku describes as “a Second Industrial Revolution.”

This is significant because it’s one of the first times a mainstream media network has mentioned molecular manufacturing in a realistic context.

Below are some excerpts of Prof. Kaku’s comments, followed by my own thoughts…

“A virus cuts and splices other molecules together. At the key juncture, then you manufacture billions of these things.  This could set off a second industrial revolution. Imagine molecular factories creating Pentium chips.  Molecular factories creating batteries.”

Think molecular manufacturing is impossible?

Some people do?

They’re wrong.

How can I be so certain?

Because humans are molecular machines.  So are plants, animals, bacteria, and viruses.  Each of these organisms has the ability to self-replicate and to manufacture copies with molecular precision.

Prof. Kaku hits the nail on the head when he draws the parallel between a virus and manufacturing system.  Once humanity gains control over a process viruses have utilized since the beginning of time, things will never be the same again.

As Prof. Kaku states…

“It could create a second industrial revolution. The first industrial revolution was based on mass production of large machines. The second industrial revolution could be molecular manufacture.”

And

“We’re talking about a new way of manufacturing almost everything. Instead of having robots that are gigantic and clumsy, you now have molecular robots, because what does a virus do? A virus cuts and splices and dices other molecules. So why not use that molecular ability to create a whole plethora of things for the computer age and the electric age? And so this could remove many bottlenecks in our manufacturing industry.”

So what does this Second Industrial Revolution look like?

Nanofactory Animation

The YouTube video below provides an incredible visual representation of a tabletop nanofactory, a future household appliance with an internal molecular manufacturing capability…

From Animation to Reality

Could the animation above simply be “a movie trailer” of things to come?

More than two years ago, I wrote a post on this site titled “Molecular Manufacturing in 3 to 5 Years?

And the YouTube animation above is at least that old…

My point?

Molecular manufacturing is well on its way to becoming reality, and the world needs to be prepared.  Such a powerful technology in the hands of one individual or a small group will inevitably lead to world government and an atmosphere where freedom and liberty are severely threatened…

Why?

Take some time to review these past posts…

The Necessity of Global Government Confirmed
Deception In The End Times
Why Global Government Is Inevitable
Material Abundance In The End Times
Paving the Way for the Antichrist
Who Will Develop Molecular Manufacturing?
Revelation 6 (Part 1): The Rider on the White Horse
Revelation 6 (Part 2): The Rider on the Red Horse
Revelation 6 (Part 3): The Rider on the Black Horse
Revelation 6 (Part 4): The Rider on the Pale Green Horse

You might view these observations as idle speculation, but the rational mind should view them as evidence of an imminent event of profound significance.

What’s that upcoming event?

It’s not the start of the Second Industrial Revolution…

It’s the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

If you have yet to understand the significance of this time, that the world we live in is radically different than the world of past generations, then let this serve as a wake-up call.

Two thousand years ago, Peter spoke of our generation

“Most importantly, I want to remind you that in the last days scoffers will come, mocking the truth and following their own desires. They will say, ‘What happened to the promise that Jesus is coming again? From before the times of our ancestors, everything has remained the same since the world was first created.’” 2 Peter 3:3-4 (NLT)

Does a Second Industrial Revolution sparked by molecular manufacturing sound like a world where “everything has remained the same” since the times of our ancestors?

Of course not.

Simple observation reveals a world where social and technological change is taking place at a rapid, exponential pace.

This isn’t random chance.  It’s a sign of something to come.

That something is not the singularity, and it’s not molecular manufacturing.

It’s the return of Jesus Christ.

If you’re wise, you’ll take note and make preparations for His return…

“See, I am coming soon, and my reward is with me, to repay all according to their deeds. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” Revelation 22:12-13 (NLT)

Humanity’s Exponential Advance

Posted by brittgillette on 28th January 2009

Humanity's Exponential AdvanceThis site has long warned of the implications of the development of molecular manufacturing and how such a development fits into the context of bible prophecy.  As we get closer to the day when Christ returns, we can also observe a noticeable exponential increase in the development of advanced human technologies.

This should come as no surprise.  Jesus warned his disciples in the Olivet Discourse that the time just prior to His Coming would be marked by tribulation:

“For there will be greater anguish than at any time since the world began. And it will never be so great again.”  Matthew 24:21 (NLT)

Reading through the headlines of our day, it’s easy to imagine such a time…

Russia’s Emphasis on Nano Weaponry

From the Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies:

Take this with at least a grain of salt, probably more, and recognize that you’re reading an English translation from Spanish of news items taken from Russian media and translated from Russian into Spanish.  Still, after all those caveats, and remembering the penchant of Russian leaders for hyperbole, this report has an ominous ring to it: The Russian Military Complex (RMC)successfully applies nanotechnology in the production of weapons and war materials, informed the government vice president, Serguei Ivanov.  Ivanov added that this field ofscience can radically change the character of war and added that theworks of RMC will be completely financed. [More…]

Yet more evidence that the governments of this world are feverishly racing toward the development of molecular manufacturing.

Self-Assembled Spherical Nanostructures

From Chemie.De:

Nicola Armaroli and co-workers from CNR-ISOF, Bologna, Italy, and Davide Bonifazi and colleagues from the Università di Trieste, Italy, and the University of Namur, Belgium, have shown that conjugated molecules bearing complementary hydrogen bonding sites can self-organise into complex nanostructures, which resemble natural micellar systems. [More…]

As nature illustrates, molecular manufacturing already exists.  But this technological breakthrough brings humanity a step closer to the software control of matter, a step closer to the day when humans can harness the power of self-assembling molecules to construct objects and machines that most people believe are outside the realm of possibility.

Scientists Teleport Matter More Than Three Feet

From Fox News:

Scientists have come a bit closer to achieving the “Star Trek” feat of teleportation.  No one is galaxy-hopping, or even beaming people around, but for the first time, information has been teleported between two separate atoms across a distance of a meter — about a yard.  This is a significant milestone in a field known as quantum information processing, said Christopher Monroe of the Joint Quantum Institute at the University of Maryland, who led the effort.   [More…]

And yet another step is taken toward harnessing the power of nature.  When humans can capture the power of atomic communication, quantum computers of unimaginable speed and processing power become possible.  Such computers would dwarf today’s supercomputers by several orders of magnitude, placing previously impossible acts within reach.  One such possibility is a powerful computer network capable of identifying, tracking, and securing every financial transaction on earth.

A Fantastic Voyage Brought to Life

From ScienceMode.com:

Ever since the 1966 Hollywood movie, doctors have imagined a real-life Fantastic Voyage –– a medical vehicle shrunk small enough to “submarine” in and fix faulty cells in the body. Thanks to new research by Tel Aviv University scientists, that reality may be only three years away. [More…]

Our bodies already self-repair when we experience a cut of the skin or a broken bone.  Why not speed up the process by manipulating our bodies on the molecular level?  Such precision will lead to plunging mortality rates and dramatically improved health for the human race.

Unfortunately, human arrogance and disdain for God are likely to increase in parallel with these advancements.

Where Is All This Leading?

To understand just where this is all leading, we only need open our bible to the Book of Genesis, where we find the story of the Tower of Babel:

“At one time the whole world spoke a single language and used the same words. As the people migrated eastward, they found a plain in the land of Babylonia and settled there. They began to talk about construction projects. ‘Come,’ they said, ‘let’s make great piles of burnt brick and collect natural asphalt to use as mortar. Let’s build a great city with a tower that reaches to the skies – a monument to our greatness! This will bring us together and keep us from scattering all over the world.’  But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building. ‘Look!’ he said. ‘If they can accomplish this when they have just begun to take advantage of their common language and political unity, just think of what they will do later. Nothing will be impossible for them! Come, let’s go down and give them different languages. Then they won’t be able to understand each other.’  In that way, the Lord scattered them all over the earth; and that ended the building of the city. That is why the city was called Babel, because it was there that the Lord confused the people by giving them many languages, thus scattering them across the earth.” Genesis 11:1-9 (NLT)

In this story, God scatters the human race and confuses them with different languages. His reason for doing so is to avoid the inevitable disaster wrought by global government and a common language. Why are these things a concern? Because if they continue unabated, in due time, “nothing will be impossible” for the human race. This is more than a flippant comment by God. It’s a prophecy of things to come.

It’s a prophecy of something so bad, God put a stop to it the moment He first saw it. God knew that, left to pursue its technological development, the human race would one day challenge Him. After all, what was the motive for building the Tower of Babel in the first place?

“Let’s build a great city with a tower that reaches to the skies – a monument to our greatness!” Genesis 11:4 (NLT)

The human race set out to build a monument to its own greatness, exalting mankind above God and extending its tower far into heaven with the sole intent of usurping God’s glory and authority. This innate human desire did not end with the Tower of Babel. It continues to this day, and soon it will result in one final attempt to usurp the authority of God.

With human technology advancing at an exponential pace, that day will come sooner than most people think.

It’s A Small World…

NanotechnologySome interesting updates in the world of nanotechnology and molecular manufacturing.

Nano’s Big Kick Coming Soon

Interesting blog post by Tihamer Toth-Fejel over at The Center For Responsible Nanotechnology blog:

One of the points to remember is that Moore’s Law is exponential — or even faster, if Ray Kurzweil is correct. So it’s not really a question of what kind of technology did we have 92 years ago…we should ask about 920 years ago, or even 9200 years ago.  In other words, if Freitas, Merkle, and Moriarty succeed next year, all heck will break loose. Not immediately, of course, but diamond is a very useful engineering material.  If we could use it to make cars and buildings, we would.  Everything depends on availability and cost — and both depend on technology.  [More…]

So what is it that “Freitas, Merkle, and Moriarty” could succeed at next year?  A five-year $3 million grant by the U.K. Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) to perform a series of laboratory experiments designed to investigate the possibility of diamond mechanosynthesis (DMS).

Essentially, if such a breakthrough succeeds, it would blow open the doors to the age of molecular manufacturing.  As this site has previously stated, the development of molecular manufacturing is nothing to take lightly, and it is certain to result in a global government.

Europeans More Open To Nanotech Than Americans

Who would lead such a global government?  EurActiv.com provides one possibility:

Nanotech challenges the traditional values of Americans, while more secular Europeans are generally more supportive of the technology, reveals a new report.  People with stronger religious beliefs tend to be opposed to nanotechnology, which is said to have the potential to alter the fundamentals of nature, according to the report, published last December in the Nature Nanotechnology journal.  In the US and European countries where religion still plays a large role in everyday life, notably Italy, Austria and Ireland, nanotech is thus much less acceptable than in more secular France and Germany, found the report, which saw researchers compare attitudes to nanotechnology in 12 European countries and the US.  [More…]

I think this study fails to address the larger issue.  Do people with “stronger religious beliefs” oppose technology?  Do they refuse life saving medical treatments, avoid using cell phones and computers, or ride horses rather than drive automobiles?  In some cases, yes.  But in the majority of cases, no.  So why then are people classified as holding “stronger religious beliefs” opposing the development of nanotechnology?

I would submit that it’s not the development of nanotechnology that they oppose, but rather the unrestrained use of it.  No technology is inherently evil, and nanotechnology and molecular manufacturing are no exception.  However, technologies throughout history (especially recent history) have been used by sinful mankind to wage large-scale war, oppress individual liberty, and commit genocide on a mass scale.

The problem is not technological development.  The problem is sin.  The power of technology serves to amplify that sin.  And the solution is not a change in public attitude.  The solution is the one and only Savior, Jesus Christ.

Russia’s Crash Nano Program

From Michael Berger at Nanowerk:

This week’s successful international nanotechnology forum Rusnanotech in Moscow has put a spotlight on Russia’s ambitions to catch up with the leading nanotechnology nations.  While Russia has the money, the political will, and a well educated scientific base to be a leading player, it has completely missed the boat on developing its nanoscience programs and nanotechnology infrastructure.   In terms of gross domestic product (GDP), Russia ranks as the eleventh largest economy in the world. But while many smaller countries such as Australia or South Korea, not to mention all of the bigger nations, have invested steadily and broadly in all areas of nanosciences and nanotechnologies for years now, Russia has had no coordinated science policy, no industrial policy, and no commercial industrial base to develop its nanotechnology capabilities. Until last year, that is. In April 2007, the Russian president signed off on a public policy paper that ordered a multi-billion dollar program to develop a world-class Russian nanotechnology industry by 2015. [More…]

While the above article focuses on Russian investment in nanoscale sciences, without directly mentioning molecular manufacturing, you can be sure that Russia is one of many countries engaged in a race to develop the breakthrough technology.  The stakes are simply too high.

The country which first develops molecular manufacturing will, if it wishes, have all the nations of the world for the taking.  To my knowledge, the only man in history who turned down such an offer was Jesus Christ:

“Then the devil took him up and revealed to him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.  “I will give you the glory of these kingdoms and authority over them,” the devil said, “because they are mine to give to anyone I please.  I will give it all to you if you will worship me.”  Jesus replied, “The Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’”  Luke 4:5-8 (NLT)

My guess is that next time the world won’t be so lucky.  The next person who is offered the world will give into Satan’s temptation:

“And the dragon gave him his own power and throne and great authority.” Revelation 13:2 (NLT)

A New Manhattan Project?

Posted by brittgillette on 22nd September 2008

A New Manhattan Project? The following news story was recently brought to my attention, and I think it’s worth noting:

Secret Killing Program is Key in Iraq, Woodward Says

WASHINGTON (CNN) — The dramatic drop in violence in Iraq is due in large part to a secret program the U.S. military has used to kill terrorists, according to a new book by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Bob Woodward.

The program — which Woodward compares to the World War II era Manhattan Project that developed the atomic bomb — must remain secret for now or it would “get people killed,” Woodward said Monday on CNN’s Larry King Live. [Read more…]

If this is true, then it raises a number of interesting questions.  What is the purpose and/or product of this secret program?  Is molecular manufacturing part of this undertaking?

Regardless of the true identity of the secret weapon Bob Woodward says exists, in all likelihood, it is not molecular manufacturing.  Although molecular manufacturing would allow American forces to easily track and destroy terrorists, it would also be quite difficult to conceal for a protracted period of time.  This is due to the need to avoid a molecular manufacturing arms race, which would quickly result in unprecedented global destruction.  To avoid such a dire outcome, the establishment of global government is inevitable.

Since Woodward’s so called secret weapon has been deployed for some time, we can be all but certain it isn’t molecular manufacturing.  However, Woodward’s claim indirectly supports the idea that the development of molecular manufacturing is rapidly approaching.

I wrote the following back in 2002:

“The proliferation of nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons provides terrorists with an almost infinite number of options for attacking the global economic system.  The financial and logistical impossibility of guarding against every possible attack necessitates the development of molecular manufacturing to defend our way of life.  Just as December 7th catapulted the world into the Nuclear Age, September 11th will plunge it into the Nanotechnic Age.”

In other words, the need to put an immediate end to a costly worldwide conflict in the early 1940’s ultimately led to a heated race to create an atomic bomb.  Likewise, the global war on terror, as well as more traditional geopolitical competition, will ultimately lead to the creation of molecular manufacturing.

At the very least, Bob Woodward is telling us that the United States government is engaged in serious military research and development efforts in order to achieve a breakthrough victory in the war on terror.  While it’s doubtful that the breakthrough Woodward is celebrating is molecular manufacturing, we should have no doubt that the United States, or most likely another nation (or coalition of nations), will develop molecular manufacturing as a result of today’s geopolitical climate.

When that happens, the developing nation(s) will begin a campaign for complete global domination – a campaign that will lead to the very Tribulation warned of by Jesus and the Prophets centuries ago.

The Dawn of the Molecular Age?

Posted by brittgillette on 18th April 2008

Nanotechnology AdvancementsFor the past year, I’ve posted a number of articles on the future development of molecular manufacturing (MM) and its relation to bible prophecy.  In the time since those articles were first written, researchers have achieved some major milestones in the development of this powerful technology.  So I thought I would provide an update for those who are interested:

Nanotechnology Milestone #1: (Protein Design)

Chemists from UCLA and the University of Washington recently collaborated in the creation of “designer enzymes,” an achievement with major implications.  The project makes it feasible for the human race to create customized enzymes that don’t normally occur in nature for the express purpose of enabling chemical reactions.  This is a major stepping stone in the goal of human computational control of chemical reactions and eventual human control over all matter itself.

Read more on the CRN blog: “Nanotechnology Milestone

Nanotechnology Milestone #2: (“Nano-Brain”)

Essentially a molecular switch, scientists in Japan have created a molecular device which can be used to send messages to other molecular devices.  This “chemical brain” is actually a single molecule surrounded by 16 additional molecules.  Using a scanning tunneling microscope, researchers can change the chemical state of the central molecule, which then effects the chemical state of all the surrounding molecules.  The result is a configuration that “allows four billion different possible combinations of outcome”.  In due time, such a breakthrough will serve as an important bridge between human desire and the ultimate manipulation of matter.

Read more on BCC: “Chemical Brain Controls Nanobots

Nanotechnology Milestone #3: Atomically Precise Manufacturing (APM)

A $15 million research project at The University of Texas – Dallas aims to design a manufacturing process that takes place at the molecular level.  Once achieved, this process will allow researchers to manufacture products with absolute atomic precision – meaning every single atom will be in its proper position.  Molecular manufacturing includes this ability, along with other notable characteristics, such as the ability to self-replicate, so by itself this breakthrough will not result in molecular manufacturing.  However, it will lead to a dramatic increase in the power and potency of certain products manufactured using this process, and it represents a major stepping stone in the race to achieve molecular manufacturing.

Read more on Nanotechnology Now: “Researchers Drafting Plans for Tiny Assembly Lines

This last story calls for closer examination.  The real news story is not the ambitious goal of atomically precise manufacturing (APM), but rather the details of the undertaking itself.  A university is expected to achieve this milestone for the relatively low cost of $15 million?  If this turns out to be true, then the development of molecular manufacturing could be much closer than people believe.

Think about it.

As major milestones on the road to molecular manufacturing begin to fall within the boundaries of universities and corporations, requiring only millions instead of billions of dollars to achieve, then those same milestones are easily within reach of governments all across the globe who have tens of billions of dollars to devote to covert molecular manufacturing programs.  Given the profound advantages to developing MM first, coupled with the profound negative consequences of not developing it first, it seems more than likely that multiple governments have sufficiently advanced covert molecular manufacturing programs currently underway.  If corporations and university researchers can make such rapid progress with limited resources, what could a well-funded government military project achieve?

The answer will change the geopolitical realities of our time by crowning the winner of this new arms race undisputed ruler of the world.

Which leads us to an update on another question often tackled on this site…

Who will develop molecular manufacturing first?

This was the subject of a recent commentary by Mike Treder for Nanotechnology Now.

Read the full article: “Who will win the nano race?

This is an interesting commentary, and I highly recommend reading it in its entirety.  The article sets out to predict who will win the global race to create an MM capability and it attempts to draw some conclusions based on two variables:

1) Publication of peer reviewed papers on the subject of nanotechnology

2) Public and private funding of nanotechnology

While neither of these variables is sufficient to predict the winner of the race to molecular manufacturing, they do provide great insight into the amount of interest and focus on the subject by the respective scientific communities of the nations involved.  Treder’s commentary leans toward the conclusion that the United States maintains a decent lead in both areas.  However, further examination of the data reveals a different story.

In my opinion, funding is a less reliable indicator of commitment due to the fact that a covert government project is not counted in the final figures.  Therefore, we can’t really analyze accurate figures of each nation’s final expenditures in regard to nanotechnology.  However, peer reviewed papers offer a more reliable indicator because they illustrate the true depth and breadth of knowledge retained by a local research community concerning a particular area of scientific study.

At first glance, this chart appears to show a decisive advantage for the United States with the following figures* representing the total number of scientific publications originating in each country:

United States  18,200
Japan   8,000
China   7,200
Germany   7,000
United Kingdom  4,200
France   4,000
Italy   3,000
South Korea  2,000
Canada   1,800
Spain   1,700
Russia   1,600

*(all figures are approximate numbers)

However, the chart should actually indicate the following:

European Union  19,900
United States  18,200
Japan   8,000
China   7,200
South Korea  2,000
Canada   1,800
Russia   1,600

When the core nations of the European Union are treated as a single nation (which they should be in this instance given the cooperative nature of the Western European Union in the development of military armaments), it becomes clear that the United States is not the world leader in nanotechnology expertise – the European Union is.

If this is true, then the European Union is on its way to becoming the world’s ruling power, a development that isn’t surprising to those familiar with bible prophecy.  Afterall, the bible is clear that the final gentile world empire will be a revived version of the Roman Empire.

What Does All This Mean?

For those who missed previous articles on the subject of molecular manufacturing and its relation to bible prophecy, below is a list of past articles featured on BrittGillette.Com:

Revelation 6 (Part 1): The Rider on the White Horse
Revelation 6 (Part 2): The Rider on the Red Horse
Revelation 6 (Part 3): The Rider on the Black Horse
Revelation 6 (Part 4): The Rider on the Pale Green Horse
Paving the Way for the Antichrist
Who Will Develop Molecular Manufacturing?
Material Abundance In The End Times
Why Global Government Is Inevitable
Deception In The End Times
The Necessity of Global Government Confirmed

These articles shed light on the general direction in which this world is headed.  Although the bible does not explicitly mention molecular manufacturing, it does provide a description of the state of human affairs in the last days.  Much of what the bible describes parallels human predictions for the era of molecular manufacturing.

Does this mean molecular manufacturing is the tool with which the Antichrist will conquer the world?  Not necessarily.

But what we do know is that an alternative method for the establishment of the Antichrist’s diabolical kingdom has only a short window of time to materialize before the maturation of molecular manufacturing.  Since the development of molecular manufacturing will inevitably lead to the establishment of a global regime, and the bible states that a truly global government will not exist until the appearance of the Antichrist, then one can logically conclude that if the Antichrist does not appear before the development of molecular manufacturing, he must appear in tandem with it.

The aforementioned breakthroughs in the race to develop this powerful technology illustrate just how close the world is to the seven year Tribulation and the subsequent Glorious Appearing of Jesus Christ.  This means the timing of the rapture is even closer.  In fact, the rapture is immiment, even more imminent than it ever has been if that makes sense.  All one has to do is examine the signs of our times, which the bible says are unmistakable signs of the last days:

1) The Jews are Gathered in the Land of Israel
2) Russia is Forming an Unprecedented Alliance with Muslim Nations
3) The Emerging World Power is the European Union
4) The Various Signs about which Jesus Spoke are now Present

Not all the signs of our times are mentioned here, but they are plentiful, and the development of molecular manufacturing is just one more bullet point to add to this list, since it has to occur in tandem with the Antichrist if this son of perdition has not already appeared by the time of its maturation.

Regardless, the signs are clears, our generation will witness the end of this age

Jesus Christ is standing right at the door, knocking for anyone willing to listen.  Soon, He will announce His presence to the world through means of the rapture, and soon thereafter He will establish His everlasting Kingdom where righteousness and justice will prevail forever and ever.

Will you be worthy of entering His Kingdom?  If you’re not sure, read “How Do I Get To Heaven?”  Rest assured that Christ has prepared a place for you in His Kingdom.  All you have to do is claim it.

The Technologies of Revelation

Posted by brittgillette on 27th January 2008

The technologies of RevelationSince Christ first promised His disciples He would return, Christians have wondered if their generation is the one that would witness the fulfillment of that promise. And probably every generation since has thought itself to be the last generation, basing their belief on the perceived or actual declining moral standards of society in their day. Yet for all the speculation and hearsay, only one generation can be the final generation, and all the evidence points to ours.

For centuries, Christians have used anecdotal evidence, such as “things have never been so bad” or “look at all the evil in the world,” as a basis for believing their generation was the last generation of this age. Yet very few biblical signs of Christ’s return, if any at all, were present for these generations.

Now, fast forward to the present day when almost every sign of Christ’s return is present. Israel is once again a nation, poised to fulfill the final seven years of God’s divine plan (Daniel 9:24). Travel and knowledge have dramatically increased (Daniel 12:4). Russia, Iran, and a unique coalition of anti-Israeli nations are gathering in concert (Ezekiel 38-39). The European Union, cultural and geographical heir to the ancient Roman Empire, has emerged on the world scene as a legitimate superpower (Daniel 9:26), and many other end times prophecies (too numerous to list here) have been fulfilled or are in the process of being fulfilled in our time.

But one of the most recognizable signs that our generation is in the last days is that ours is the first generation with, or about to acquire, the technology necessary to fulfill many of the end times prophecies. In fact, the Book of Revelation describes several key events which will transpire on earth during the tribulation period which require mankind to be in possession of advanced technology. Some of these technologies mankind has already acquired; others will be developed in the very near future.

Let’s examine these technologies:

The Whole World Looks Upon Them

Revelation 11 describes one such technology, which will allow the whole world to look upon the bodies of God’s two witnesses:

“When they complete their testimony, the beast that comes up out of the bottomless pit will declare war against them. He will conquer them and kill them. And their bodies will lie in the main street of Jerusalem, the city which is called ‘Sodom’ and ‘Egypt,’ the city where their Lord was crucified. And for three and a half days, all peoples, tribes, languages, and nations will come to stare at their bodies. No one will be allowed to bury them. All the people who belong to this world will give presents to each other to celebrate the death of the two prophets who had tormented them.” Revelation 11:7-10 (NLT)

The fact that all peoples, tribes, languages, and nations will stare at these bodies has been fertile ground for modern speculation, with many Christians believing that, for the first time in history, this prophecy can be fulfilled through satellite news coverage on CNN or MSNBC. It’s true that this is unprecedented in human history. Yet the ability to view any area of the planet via a cable news network feed does not, of its own merits, mean that this prophecy can presently be fulfilled.

The verse specifically says “all peoples, tribes, languages, and nations” will stare at their bodies, not “some of” the peoples, tribes, languages, and nations. In our day, the technology capable of bringing this event to fruition remains unavailable to much of the world’s population. However, in the very near future, the cost of this technology will significantly decrease in proportion to its power, providing much of the Third World with the media access it currently lacks. As a result of a trend toward more powerful and cost-effective technologies, human progress will ultimately lead to the ubiquitous use of high-bandwidth video feeds on cell phones, PDAs, and other handheld devices most of us probably have yet to imagine.

In addition, the development of molecular manufacturing (MM) will make poverty as we know it a thing of the past. Humanity will still be divided into rich and poor, but today’s rich will envy the poor of a society where even the most destitute of citizens is in possession of extremely powerful, high-bandwidth networking devices. Moreover, the exponential advance of technology will allow for the creation of virtual reality realms that will enable the end-user to “experience” live events in another location.

As a result, for the first time in history, it will be possible for the entire world to simultaneously view or “be present at” a particular geographical location, just as Revelation 11 predicts. This fact alone is strong evidence that our generation is the first generation ever with the capability to witness Christ’s return.

In addition, the bible has long foretold of a time when a specific individual will institute a worldwide system controlling all of human commerce:

“He required everyone – great and small, rich and poor, slave and free – to be given a mark on the right hand or on the forehead. And no one could buy or sell anything without that mark, which was either the name of the beast or the number representing his name.” Revelation 13:16-17 (NLT)

The “he” described in this passage is the Antichrist, who will have unprecedented control over all worldwide financial transactions. In fact, he will have so much power he will be able to determine on a case-by-case basis which individuals will be allowed to buy or sell anything.

As the development and advancement of human technology continues, not only will such an elaborate and detailed system of financial control become possible, it might well become necessary. Such a system would be the natural result of the development of molecular manufacturing (MM) and the widespread adoption of home-based desktop 3-D printing capability – a technology counterfeiters of our day would kill for.

In the near future, governments will find it near impossible to distinguish counterfeit paper currency and metallic coins from their genuine counterparts. Today’s counterfeiters have access to the latest and most sophisticated printing technologies, making it quite difficult for the average citizen to identify counterfeit currency anyway. But as printing technologies move from the two-dimensional realm into the three-dimensional realm, where every atom and molecule is in its proper place, no amount of watermarking or tamper proof technology will be able to prevent a counterfeit currency from being indistinguishable from the real McCoy.

Given that most of the world’s currencies are fiat currencies (meaning value is completely derived from the public’s willingness to accept the underlying value of the currency), such an environment of rampant counterfeiting would destroy the international monetary system unless drastic change is implemented. The only method of currency verification a government could implement would have to involve direct tracking and oversight of all currency in the monetary system. And under such a system, what would be the actual point of paper currency or metallic coins? The vigilant fraud prevention necessary to protect the monetary supply would have to involve sophisticated electronic banking encryption software and/or stringent personal identification verification technologies. One, the other, or both in the hands of government regulators would provide the government in question with unprecedented power over its citizenry.

As a result, for the first time in history, a government would be in a position to eliminate the existence of black markets (with the exception of those that involve bartering). For the first time ever, a government could literally control who is able to buy and sell.

The Mark of the Beast

In fact, such a scenario is exactly the one which the bible describes for the last days. As previously mentioned, the Book of Revelation states:

“He required everyone – great and small, rich and poor, slave and free – to be given a mark on the right hand or on the forehead. And no one could buy or sell anything without that mark, which was either the name of the beast or the number representing his name.” Revelation 13:16-17 (NLT)

Verifying whether or not someone is authorized to buy or sell based on a mark has theoretically been possible throughout history. However, given the level of control described by the bible, enforcement of such a system (and the suppression of the inevitable black markets that will emerge) has been completely out of reach for previous generations. Taking this passage in its full context, even today’s world lacks the technology to completely enforce such a system of commerce. But the day is rapidly approaching when such a system will be within man’s reach.

A tattoo, by itself, is simply not sufficient to enforce such a system. In order to succeed, the distinguishing mark most also be pared with a worldwide database containing the necessary information relevant to the individual and his or her ability to make a financial transaction. While it’s certainly possible that a dictator could’ve mandated such a system in years past, the enforcement mechanism would’ve been lacking. Those without the mark might have faced discrimination or have otherwise been ostracized from their community. But a mark by itself can do nothing to prevent the emergence of a black market. As long as the worldwide monetary system involves currency that can be stored, hidden, and traded in secret, government attempts at control will always lead to the emergence of a black market for commerce.

However, once a stand alone currency is taken out of the equation and financial transactions are moved completely into the electronic realm, it will no longer be possible to store, hide, or trade currency in secret. An electronic monetary system of this type would have been inconceivable to our forefathers. But our generation is completely emerged in its predecessor.

Technology to Conquer and Control the World

Just as the massive global destruction chronicled in the Book of Revelation remained beyond the comprehension of man until the development of the atomic bomb, the idea of one man becoming the undisputed leader of the world was beyond the realm of possibility for previous generations. Yet the bible clearly states that one man will temporarily rule the entire world:

“And he was given authority to rule over every tribe and people and language and nation.” Revelation 13:7 (NLT)

This man is known as the Antichrist, and not one person will escape the reach of his rule.

Even now, the technology required to conquer and control the population of the world does not exist. Most people remain under the allusion that it does, but destroying one’s enemies or conquering a territory is quite different from the process of administering that territory. Especially when that territory’s citizens are hostile to the foreign intrusion. In 2008, the world’s most dominant military power is the United States, yet it’s efforts to govern and reshape the population of Iraq illustrate just how difficult such an undertaking can be. Administering and governing this relatively small state has proven costly, both in man power and financial resources.

Now, imagine the United States attempting to administer, regulate, and govern all the states and territories in the world. That’s a tall order.

Nevertheless, some will still argue that it’s certainly possible for a world power to conquer and govern all the states of the world. A totalitarian regime could simply murder all who pose the slightest threat to the status quo. Regimes of this kind (such as Saddam Hussein in Iraq or the Taliban in Afghanistan) have succeeded in taking state control of a population to heights never before achieved. But still, both of these societies were home to black markets, secret resistance movements, and other elements of dissent. No society has ever achieved the level of population control the bible predicts for the Antichrist’s kingdom. The logistics of such a detailed and individual level of control have simply made such a scenario impossible.

However, the day is fast approaching when this will no longer be the case.

In his Future Brief article ‘A Global Surge Protector,” Mike Treder makes the following observation: “For, until our time, conditions have not made it possible for true world domination to exist.”

Treder is comfortable making this assessment because he is intimately familiar with the emerging technology of molecular manufacturing. Molecular manufacturing will lead to the immediate creation of extremely cheap advanced technologies capable of aiding an individual or a small group in the task of dominating and controlling the world population.

Here’s a glimpse of what the world would look like under such a scenario:

Government surveillance will be “god-like” in its scope and capability – seeing everything, hearing everything, and knowing everything. Try to envision “nanodust” – particles the size of a single speck of dust complete with onboard cameras and listening devices. This nanodust is as plentiful and difficult to remove as the natural dust people encounter every day. The construction of trillions of these sophisticated devices will be possible to achieve at negligible cost, thereby making them ubiquitous.

Outfitted with advanced artificial intelligence software, these devices sift through continuous video and audio feeds, searching for predetermined patterns which indicate potentially “aberrant” behavior as defined by the state. Such a world isn’t difficult to imagine. Similar pattern recognition technologies are already in widespread use. In the future, they will simply be extended to applications that encompass all human behavior on a global scale.

The aforementioned scenario isn’t as futuristic as some believe. The technologies described will emerge suddenly with little time for the world to plan or adjust to their impact. Nevertheless, if current trends continue, they will come. This is just another reason why our generation is unique in its ability to fulfill the prophecies catalogued in the Book of Revelation.

Conclusion

No generation before ours could have realistically expected the fulfillment of the aforementioned end times prophecies. While the tribulation features supernatural acts by both God and Satan, our generation is the first generation capable of fulfilling the Book of Revelation’s prophecies without a need for supernatural acts to accomplish the feats described therein.

This is one of the strongest arguments that ours in the last generation prior to the return of Jesus Christ. However, it’s also one of the least accepted because it’s difficult for people living in our times to recognize just how completely unique and unrecognizable our world is compared to that of previous generations. But if a person takes the time to study and examine human history, it becomes clear as day that Christ is knocking on the door.

Would it have been realistic for the whole world to literally watch an event unfold prior to our generation? Of course not, yet it would seem like business as usual for our generation.

Would it have been realistic for a single individual to control world commerce prior to our generation? Of course not, yet our generation is the first to conduct the majority of its sales and purchasing transactions electronically. In this day and age, is it really difficult to believe a single government could control all financial transactions?

Would it have been realistic for a previous generation to create a giant worldwide database containing the financial history of every single individual on earth who accepted a mark? Of course not. Such a system, without the aid of powerful computers and sophisticated software, would have been costly bureaucratic sea of inefficiency, incapable of monitoring financial transactions. Yet our generation is the first which can conceivably implement such a system.

Would it have been realistic for a previous generation to set up a truly global government, governing its citizens with ruthless efficiency and little threat of revolt? Of course not. Not only has nationalism stood in the way, but the logistics of such an undertaking are well beyond the capabilities of human beings unaided by powerful technologies. Yet, in the very near future, not only will such an undertaking be possible, many will argue that it’s absolutely necessary.

For our generation, the writing is on the wall. Jesus Christ is coming soon! The question every person should ask is whether His Coming will bring indescribable joy or abject horror. The choice is ours to make.

Is The Singularity The Rapture?

Posted by brittgillette on 6th January 2008

Is the Singularity the Rapture? In the near future, the advance of human technology will become so rapid the unaided human mind will be unable to comprehend its implications. The point in time at which this occurs is generally known as “the singularity,” and many believe it will usher in a new and exciting era for the human race. Throughout the world, many intellectuals and futurists have noted their belief in the nearness of the singularity, with quite a few predicting it will occur within our generation.

Some proponents of the singularity have promised immortality and post-biological bodies for the human race, prompting many adherents to draw parallels between these events and the prophesied rapture of the bible. Lacking a clear understanding of bible prophecy, some of these people have come to believe that the singularity and the rapture are one and the same. However, nothing could be further from the truth. So let’s examine the facts about the singularity and the rapture.

What is the Singularity?

As previously stated, the singularity is a future point in time when societal, economic, and technological change increases at such a rapid pace that the unaided human mind cannot begin to comprehend its implications.

The concept of the singularity is built on the premise that human technological advancement is not linear, but rather exponential. In other words, conventional wisdom (the linear view) holds that the next 100 years will bring the same amount of progress as the previous 100 years. However, those who predict the singularity (the exponential view) believe the next 100 years might well bring the equivalent of twenty or more 20th Centuries of progress.

Mere observation tends to support the exponential view. For instance, the 20th Century brought more technological progress than the 19th Century. And the 1990’s brought more technological progress than the 1980’s. As a result, it’s logical to conclude that the human race is rapidly approaching the singularity.

What is Transhumanism?

In preparation for the singularity, a new worldwide social/religious movement has emerged: the Transhumanist Movement. Identifying themselves “singularitarians” and “transhumanists,” these people look forward to the singularity with a fervor usually reserved for religious zealots. Many within the movement believe the singularity will lead to the emergence of “post-biological humans” who are able to shed their biological bodies and “upgrade their hardware.” Many believe that by downloading themselves into a network, they will effectively become “immortal.” True believers have modified their diets, exercise routines, and entire lifestyle in an effort to increase the likelihood of living to witness human reversal of the aging process and eventual human “immortality.”

In light of the emergence of this new movement and its clearly stated goals, these words of warning from our Lord take on new meaning:

“In fact, unless that time of calamity is shortened, the entire human race will be destroyed. But it will be shortened for the sake of God’s chosen ones.” Matthew 24:22 (NLT)

Through the centuries, this verse has been interpreted to mean that the Glorious Appearing of Christ will arrive just before the human race managed to destroy itself in war. However, it could mean that “no flesh will be saved” because the human race will attempt to transform itself into a race of “post-biological humans.”

Why Do Some People Believe This is the Rapture?

So why are some people arriving at the conclusion that the singularity and the transhumanist desire for post-biological bodies portend the rapture? What is the basis for this reasoning? Believe it or not, the root of this idea comes from scripture. However, as will soon be illustrated, the scriptures cited have been taken out of context.

Post-Biological Bodies

Ray Kurzweil – inventor, author, and futurist – is widely regarded as a prominent expert in the transhumanist movement. In Chapter 7 of his bestselling book “The Singularity is Near: When Humans Transcend Biology,” he describes his view of humanity’s post-biological future:

“What we are doing is transcending biology. The transformation underlying the Singularity is not just another in a long line of steps in biological evolution. We are upending biological evolution altogether.” (Kurzweil, page 372)

Human transcendence of biology is a process which has already begun. People who have pacemakers or artificial limbs are in a sense, merging with non-biological human technology. As this technology advances, the human race will engage in much more sophisticated enhancement of the human body, including enhancement of brain power and the connecting of human brains to local or global networks. In addition, a person’s exterior body could be modified to become stronger than steel, making them less susceptible to life-threatening trauma.

Some who foresee this future believe it will be a fulfillment of bible prophecy:

“And then we who are living will be transformed so that we will never die. For our perishable earthly bodies must be transformed into heavenly bodies that will never die.” 1 Corinthians 15:52-53 (NLT)

In addition, they believe these post-biological bodies will enable them to inherit the Kingdom of God:

“Every human being has an earthly body just like Adam’s, but our heavenly bodies will be just like Christ’s. Just as we are now like Adam, the man of the earth, so we will someday be like Christ, the man from heaven. What I am saying, dear brothers and sisters, is that flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom of God. These perishable bodies of ours are not able to live forever.” 1 Corinthians 15:48-50 (NLT)

Proponents of this idea believe that when humans shed their biological bodies (i.e. flesh and blood), the door will be opened to a new earthly paradise.

Immortality

In addition, transhumanists believe the information in our brains (i.e. memories, knowledge, and the varying patterns that make a person unique) can be translated into code and uploaded into new hardware. Imagine for a moment that a human body is like a computer, and the personal information you have on your computer comprises all the memories and knowledge of a lifetime. When your old computer becomes broken or obsolete, you simply get a new one. And when you do, you transfer all the important files and information from the old one (or a backup) onto the new one. This is a fairly accurate description of the transhumanist vision for humans.

Human bodies become obsolete. They decay and eventually stop functioning, and when they do, a person has no backup. All their memories and knowledge are lost forever. Transhumanists believe they can halt this process by uploading a person’s unique thoughts and brain patterns into a “more reliable vessel,” one better equipped for long-term functionality than a mere biological entity. By creating backups of their brain patterns, decentralizing themselves over a network such as the Internet, and continually upgrading their hardware, transhumanists believe they can effectively live forever.

And some transhumanists believe a scriptural basis exists for this human immortality:

“When this happens – when our perishable earthly bodies have been transformed into heavenly bodies that will never die – then at last the Scripture will come true: ‘Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?’” 1 Corinthians 15:54-55 (NLT)

Taken out of context, it’s not difficult to see how someone could be deceived into believing the singularity and transhumanism will help them to cheat death. However, neither one addresses the root problem of death – sin. And the only way to blot out sin is through the blood of Jesus Christ.

The Coming Deception

Already many have been deceived into believing the singularity and transhumanism are the means by which God will rapture His children. This is a gross misinterpretation of bible prophecy, and foreshadows the end of this age. For as Paul wrote in his letter to Timothy:

“For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. They will reject the truth and chase after myths.” 2 Timothy 4:3-4 (NLT)

People will chase after these lies and myths because they will want to believe them. Ultimately, the entire world will be hoodwinked by a master of deception who will feed their itching ears with exactly what they want to hear. In the years just prior to Christ’s Glorious Appearing, this will set the stage for the world to be misled by the greatest false prophet in human history, the Antichrist.

Like every false messiah before him, the Antichrist will convince his followers he is the answer to the world’s problems. Paul tells us that those who become caught in this man’s web of deceit will be guilty because they freely choose to enjoy evil while denying the truth:

“He will use every kind of evil deception to fool those on their way to destruction, because they refuse to love and accept the truth that would save them. So God will cause them to be greatly deceived, and they will believe these lies. Then they will be condemned for enjoying evil rather than believing the truth.” 2 Thessalonians 2:10-12 (NLT)

If the Antichrist’s appearance coincides with worldwide anticipation of the singularity, it’s quite possible he could use the bold promises of the transhumanist movement to convince the world that he is the long-awaited Messiah. Taking these bible prophecies out of context, the number of people who are now deceived by this falsehood will multiply rapidly.

After all, what greater lie can be told than that mankind can enjoy heavenly bodies and immortality without first shedding their sinful nature?

Why the Singularity and Transhumanism Are Not the Rapture

As previously stated, the singularity and transhumanism are not the methods deployed by God for the rapture. Although some people have made this connection, bible prophecy must be taken out of context to draw such a conclusion. Below is a list (perhaps not comprehensive) of why the singularity and the rapture are not one and the same:

Post-Biological Humans Will Not Appear in the Twinkling of an Eye

The singularity and human transformation into a post-biological state will both occur rapidly, but not in a literal instant. In Chapter Six of “The Singularity Is Near,” author Ray Kurzweil underscores this point:

“But this is not the primary way that I envision the transition to non-biological experience taking place. It will happen, rather, in the same way that all other paradigm shifts happen: gradually (but at an accelerating pace).” (Kurzweil, page 324)

Yet, the bible is clear that the rapture of the church will take place in “the twinkling of an eye”:

“But let me tell you a wonderful secret God has revealed to us. Not all of us will die, but we will all be transformed. It will happen in a moment, in the blinking of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown.” 1 Corinthians 15:51-52 (NLT)

The singularity is not the rapture, because the rapture occurs instantaneously.

The Rapture is Exclusive to Believers in Christ

The rapture is for Christians. When Paul wrote his letter to the Corinthians, it was addressed to the church, the body of believers who place their faith in Jesus Christ:

“For when the trumpet sounds, the Christians who have died will be raised with transformed bodies. And then we who are living will be transformed so that we will never die.” 1 Corinthians 15:52 (NLT)

Every human present on the earth during the time of its appearance will experience the singularity, but the rapture will be experienced exclusively by believers in Jesus Christ. Therefore, the singularity is not the rapture.

This Transformative Power Comes From God, Not Men

Transhumanists look forward to the day when immortal humans will be able to create and re-create different bodies at will. However, this is in direct conflict with how Paul describes the rapture:

“Then God gives it a new body – just the kind he wants it to have.” 1 Corinthians 15:38 (NLT)

“For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. How we thank God, who gives us victory over sin and death through Jesus Christ our Lord!” 1 Corinthians 15:56-57 (NLT)

On its own, the human race will never achieve final authority over death. Death is the penalty for sin, and freedom from death can only be achieved through the blood of Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God who washes away the sins of the world:

“But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior. He will take these weak mortal bodies of ours and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same mighty power that he will use to conquer everything, everywhere.” Philippians 3:20-21 (NLT)

The singularity will be fueled and powered by the rapid advance of human technological development, but the rapture will be brought about through the power and authority of Jesus Christ. Therefore, the singularity is not the rapture.

The Transformative Power of the Rapture is Everlasting, Not Temporary

The singularity and human transformation into a post-biological state will provide the illusion of immortality, but not literal immortality. In Chapter Six of “The Singularity Is Near,” author Ray Kurzweil underscores this point:

“By the middle of the twenty-first century humans will be able to expand their thinking without limit. This is a form of immortality, although it is important to point out that data and information do not necessarily last forever.” (Kurzweil, page 325)

The transhumanist claim of immortality falls short of its stated goal, unlike the promise of the rapture which will result in spiritual bodies which will never perish:

“Our earthly bodies, which die and decay, will be different when they are resurrected, for they will never die. Our bodies now disappoint us, but when they are raised, they will be full of glory. They are weak now, but when they are raised, they will be full of power. They are natural human bodies now, but when they are raised, they will be spiritual bodies. For just as there are natural bodies, so also there are spiritual bodies.” 1 Corinthians 15:42-44 (NLT)

One day, humanity might well achieve a post-biological state of being, but it will simply be trading in one fragile vessel for another. Those who participate in the rapture, however, will remain with Christ forever:

“Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and remain with him forever. So comfort and encourage each other with these words.” 1 Thessalonians 4:17-18 (NLT)

The singularity will herald a time of unprecedented human power, but this power will pale in comparison to the awesome power of God, meaning it cannot be eternal in nature. On the other hand, the rapture will bring with it the everlasting authority of Jesus Christ. Therefore, the singularity is not the rapture.

The Raptured Will No Longer Dwell on Earth, But in Heaven

While the transhumanist movement promises immortality on earth and in the unexplored depths of space, the rapture promises that believers will be caught up into the clouds to meet the Lord and that they will remain with Him forever:

“For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the call of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, all the Christians who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and remain with him forever.” 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 (NLT)

The singularity is an event which will be powered by events on earth, but the rapture is an event which will take place in the clouds and effect certain individuals who live on the earth. Therefore, the singularity is not the rapture.

Conclusion

The bible is clear concerning the characteristics of the rapture. It is an event that will be precipitated by the appearance of Jesus Christ in the clouds. It will happen in “the twinkling of an eye,” and it will not be an event in which the whole world will participate. The rapture will transform human bodies into spiritual bodies, while even the boldest of transhumanists claims merely assert that the singularity will transform fragile human bodies into relatively less fragile human bodies. The singularity is simply not the rapture. Despite the claims, which will no doubt increase in number as we approach the end of this age, no scriptural basis exists for believing otherwise.

As such, be careful that you aren’t deceived by false prophets and messiahs who claim the singularity and the transhumanist movement will usher in an earthly paradise. One such person might be the Antichrist who Paul describes as one who will “use every kind of evil deception to fool those on their way to destruction” 2 Thessalonians 2:10 (NLT).

Those who place their faith in the singularity and the transhumanist agenda will be greatly disappointed. The redemption of mankind does not come as a result of the rapid and powerful advance of human technology. Redemption only comes through the blood of Jesus Christ:

“For all have sinned; all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet now God in his gracious kindness declares us not guilty. He has done this through Christ Jesus, who has freed us by taking away our sins. For God sent Jesus to take the punishment for our sins and to satisfy God’s anger against us. We are made right with God when we believe that Jesus shed his blood, sacrificing his life for us. God was being entirely fair and just when he did not punish those who sinned in former times. And he is entirely fair and just in this present time when he declares sinners to be right in his sight because they believe in Jesus.” Romans 3:23-26 (NLT)

Nevertheless, human beings are still inclined to believe they can conquer the power of death. The prophet Isaiah foresaw these days, as well as the futility of those who would place their faith in that which is merely human:

“Don’t put your trust in mere humans. They are as frail as breath. What good are they?” Isaiah 2:22 (NLT)

This is a brilliant observation, instructive to any generation. Instead of placing faith in fallen mankind and the material things of this world, people should put their faith in Jesus Christ. If they do, God promises they will never be disappointed:

“And anyone who believes in Him will never be disappointed.” 1 Peter 2:6 (NLT)

The Necessity of Global Government Confirmed

Posted by brittgillette on 14th November 2007

The Bulletin of Atomic ScientistsGerman physicist Jurgen Altmann recently published an interesting and expensive ($140 USD) new book, Military Nanotechnology: Potential Applications and Preventative Arms Control. Given the cost and limited availability of the book, I haven’t yet had the chance to read it myself.

However, the Nov/Dec issue of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists contains a review of the book by Mike Treder of The Center for Responsible Nanotechnology. Treder praises Altmann’s book for its “deeply researched and carefully worded” assessment of molecular manufacturing (also referred to as “molecular nanotechnology” or “MNT” in Altmann’s book), although he notes that parts of it are severely out-of-date – which is probably the case with any well-researched book concerning cutting-edge technology. Treder cites Altmann’s views on the power of molecular manufacturing, and in particular, the prospect of an unprecedented arms race with potentially devastating global consequences. These ideas have been widely discussed in intellectual circles for years, but Altmann takes the discussion one step further.

As Treder notes (emphasis mine):

“The book’s most controversial thesis is not that MNT is plausible and should be taken seriously; it is that the only coherent response to this technology’s military implications is to develop global governance structures that supersede existing national powers. ‘The traditional way of guaranteeing national security – namely the threat of armed force – may no longer be compatible with the advance of technology,’ he argues. And since security ‘can no longer be reliably ensured by national armed forces,’ he prescribes ‘strengthened international institutions and international law, in particular criminal law with prosecution of perpetrators, moving into a direction toward an international monopoly of legitimate force, strong enough to prevent or punish threats or use of illegal force.’”

“Even if this ambitious goal could be achieved, we would still arrive at a conundrum, which Altmann acknowledges: how to create a system that, lacking all but arbitrary limits, will not devolve into absolute global tyranny. For example, ‘MNT would provide chances for better treaty verification, e.g. by ubiquitous nano-robots that monitor practically everything. Of course, this would be highly ambiguous and would bring dangers to humans and society by itself.’ While neither he nor anyone else I know of can provide an ultimate answer to this quandary, Altmann does make a strong case for nations on the leading edge of new technologies, including the United States, to consider binding international agreements as a bridge to their own long-term national security.”

In layman’s terms the above quotes mean:

1) Molecular manufacturing necessitates a global government; otherwise, an unprecedented arms race will destroy the world.

2) This global government will require around-the-clock global surveillance of everything.

3) A lot of smart people who have thought about this for a long time can’t figure out how to prevent such a situation from leading to global dictatorship.

I’ve brought up these issues before, most recently in the article “Why Global Government Is Inevitable,” and before that, in the article “Paving the Way for the Antichrist.” Of course, global government is inevitable because the bible says so. Christians don’t need further confirmation of this. However, Jesus commanded us to be alert to the signs of His Coming, and this is yet another sign that he is ever close and “knocking on the door.”

The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists is a reputable, 60-year-old scientific publication, founded by two men who worked on the Manhattan Project. By publishing a book review which independently corroborates bible prophecy, it provides independent evidence of the bible’s legitimacy. This can be used to convince those who have yet to examine the prophecies of the bible that they should do so immediately… Although the bible is not in need of corroborating evidence, its skeptics are, and it’s our duty as Christians to present them with the type of evidence that will convince them to investigate the bold claims of the bible.

In light of all this, it’s worth noting that the development of molecular manufacturing is much closer than people think. Back in April, I wrote a post titled “Molecular Manufacturing in 3 to 5 Years?” which noted the first publicized instance of reputable intellectuals setting the development of molecular manufacturing as a goal to be achieved.

Now, the Foresight Nanotech Institute has published a roadmap outlining the necessary steps to achieve molecular manufacturing. With the publication of a clear outline, it’s only a matter of time before molecular manufacturing becomes reality. When it does, global government will quickly follow. And the bible tells us that when global government arrives, the Antichrist will arrive with it.

Deception In The End Times

Posted by brittgillette on 4th November 2007

Deception in the end timesAccording to bible, the end times will be marked by widespread deception, counterfeit miracles, and the appearance of false prophets. Each of these evils will contribute to an atmosphere that will deceive an untold number of people throughout the world.

Almost 2,000 years ago, Jesus warned us about this time period:

“For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform great signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even God’s chosen ones.” Matthew 24:24 (NLT)

What’s most interesting about this passage is not that false messiahs and false prophets will appear in the end times. We’ve witnessed such people firsthand in every generation since Christ first spoke these words. What stands out concerning these false prophets and false messiahs is that their great signs and wonders will be so amazing they will be capable of deceiving God’s chosen ones (if such were possible). These aren’t everyday signs and wonders. They must truly be astounding to have such an affect!

These signs and wonders will deceive people who believe they are supernatural acts of God. Instead, they will be of satanic origin. Paul revealed the reason for this deception in his letter to Timothy:

“For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. They will reject the truth and chase after myths.” 2 Timothy 4:3-4 (NLT)

In the last days, people will be fooled because they want to be. Although this seems counterintuitive, it’s true. People will believe in the signs and wonders they witness because they want to believe the lies and false promises that accompany them.

Ultimately, a lot of people will be hoodwinked by a master of deception who will feed their itching ears with exactly what they want to hear. In the years leading up to Christ’s return, the world will be misled by the greatest false prophet in human history, the Antichrist.

Deception By The Antichrist

Spiritual deception will be rampant during the seven year rule of the Antichrist. According to the prophet Daniel, the Antichrist will be a master of deception:

“He will be a master of deception and will become arrogant; he will destroy many without warning.” Daniel 8:25 (NLT)

Like every false messiah before him, the Antichrist will convince his followers he is the answer to the world’s problems. Paul tells us that those who become caught in the Antichrist’s web of deceit will be guilty because they freely choose to enjoy evil while denying the truth:

“He will use every kind of evil deception to fool those on their way to destruction, because they refuse to love and accept the truth that would save them. So God will cause them to be greatly deceived, and they will believe these lies. Then they will be condemned for enjoying evil rather than believing the truth.” 2 Thessalonians 2:10-12 (NLT)

Those who will be deceived are not innocent victims. They will not be condemned simply for being tricked. Instead, they will be condemned because, knowing the truth, they chose evil instead. To this end, the miracles of the Antichrist will play a pivotal role in the demonic deception that will cause the world to gather for battle against the Lord. In the Book of Revelation, John describes these evil forces as able to perform “miracles”:

“He did astounding miracles, even making fire flash down to earth from the sky while everyone was watching.” Revelation 13:14 (NLT)

“And I saw three evil spirits that looked like frogs leap from the mouths of the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet. They are demonic spirits who work miracles and go out to all the rulers of the world to gather them for battle against the Lord on that great judgment day of God the Almighty.” Revelation 16:13-14 (NLT)

These passages make it clear that demonic forces will perform astounding miracles in the last days. But what will these miracles be? And if “even the elect of God” could be fooled by them, how can average people protect themselves from being deceived?

To find out, let’s first examine what the bible has to say about the true Messiah.

Miracles Of The Messiah

Hundreds of years before Jesus of Nazareth walked the earth, the prophet Isaiah recorded for posterity some of the miraculous signs and wonders the Messiah would bring forth. Let’s look at a few of these:

“And when he comes, he will open the eyes of the blind and unplug the ears of the deaf. The lame will leap like a deer, and those who cannot speak will sing for joy!” Isaiah 35:5-6 (NLT)

During the ministry of Jesus, the people of Israel experienced first hand the miracles He performed. Following encounters with Jesus, the mute could speak, the deaf could hear, the paralyzed could walk, and the blind could see. As a result, many placed their faith in Jesus of Nazareth as their Messiah.

In addition to these miracles, Isaiah looked forward to a time when the Messiah would personally rule over the nations of the world, settling their disputes and ending war forever:

“The Lord will mediate between nations and will settle international disputes. They will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will no longer fight against nation, nor train for war anymore.” Isaiah 2:4 (NLT)

Although this prophecy was not fulfilled in the first coming of Jesus Christ, it is certain to be fulfilled immediately following His Second Coming.

These Messianic characteristics recorded by Isaiah – the ability to heal afflictions, perform miracles, and create peace on earth – point to one historical person, Jesus Christ. One day soon, He will return to establish everlasting peace on earth. But until that day arrives, the world at large is ripe for deception. Many of the same miracles and Messianic attributes which have prompted people to put their faith in Jesus Christ could also be used by Satan to deceive the world.

What if Satan and his minions were to appear on earth, using promises of world peace and miracle healings to trick the world into following a false messiah? Would this really be effective? Wouldn’t the same people who remain skeptical of the miracles of Jesus also be skeptical of someone else? Jesus Himself issued a warning which provides us with the answer:

“For I have come to you in my Father’s name, and you have rejected me. Yet if others come in their own name, you gladly welcome them. No wonder you can’t believe! For you gladly honor each other, but you don’t care about the honor that comes from the one who alone is God.” John 5:43-44 (NLT)

In the end times, most of the world will reject Jesus as the Messiah. But they will gladly follow someone else who comes in his own name. The Antichrist will deceive most of the world into following him. But how will he do this?

One way he could do this is by exhibiting many of the same Messianic attributes highlighted by Isaiah. And it may surprise you to learn that an emerging technology will endow the one who possesses it with the ability to perform the very same miracles we just examined.

The Deceptive Potential of Molecular Manufacturing

In earlier writings, we’ve examined the enormous power of molecular manufacturing (MM). This technology will effectively provide humanity with total control over all matter in the physical world. Able to break and create chemical bonds with atomic precision, molecular manufacturing will provide humanity with unprecedented power.

If the Antichrist were to administer the world’s molecular manufacturing capability, he could easily rule the entire world. And the abilities of this revolutionary technology would provide him with a powerful means for deceiving its people.

Perceived Peace On Earth

As stated in a previous article, the development of molecular manufacturing will inevitably lead to a global government given the severe consequences of competing nation states having simultaneous possession of this powerful technology. With a single unified government, and the inability of conventional arms to counter the immense power of MM, it will appear to most people that war is forever a part of humanity’s past.

However, only Jesus Christ can bring a lasting world peace. Without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, man’s fallen nature consumes him with a desire to acquire what he does not have. This is the root cause of all human conflict:

“What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Isn’t it the whole army of evil desires at war within you? You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous for what others have, and you can’t possess it, so you fight and quarrel to take it away from them. And yet the reason you don’t have what you want is that you don’t ask God for it. And even when you do ask, you don’t get it because your whole motive is wrong – you only want what will give you pleasure.” James 4:1 (NLT)

Despite the continuation of this wickedness in the heart of humanity, the world could appear to be at peace due to the extraordinary power of a global government in possession of molecular manufacturing. Such circumstances could lull the population of the world into believing this false peace is eternal and deceive most of the world into worshiping the Antichrist:

“They worshiped the dragon for giving the beast such power, and they worshiped the beast.” Revelation 13:4 (NLT)

Can you begin to see how the world could be deceived?

Counterfeiting the Miracles of Christ

It’s easy to see how a Christ-rejecting world could fall prey to the deceptions of the Antichrist. With the aid of molecular manufacturing, the Antichrist could replicate many of the miracles of Christ.

Molecular manufacturing will enable the construction of nanoscale devices capable of repairing, rebuilding, and restoring almost every aspect of a human’s physical body. These devices could be used to regenerate cells, tissues, organs, and even entire systems within the human body. As a result, nearly every healing miracle performed by Christ will be available during the era of molecular manufacturing. Just a few of the capabilities of MM are listed below:

1) Restoration of vocal abilities for the mute.
2) Reversal of paralysis for those with spinal cord injuries.
3) Restoration of sight for the blind.
4) Restoration of auditory abilities for the deaf.
and
5) The curing of just about any physical disease now afflicting humans.

In effect, molecular manufacturing will herald an era in which “the blind will see, the deaf will hear, the lame will walk, the mute will speak, and the sick will be healed.”

This is reminiscent of one of Isaiah’s most famous messianic prophecies:

“Say to those with fearful hearts, ‘Be strong, and do not fear, for your God is coming to destroy your enemies. He is coming to save you.’ And when he comes, he will open the eyes of the blind and unplug the ears of the deaf. The lame will leap like a deer, and those who cannot speak will sing for joy!” Isaiah 35:4-6 (NLT)

According to Isaiah, all this will happen when “God comes.”

Can you begin to see how the world could be deceived?

Turning Water Into Wine

Even the ability to turn water into wine will be possible with molecular manufacturing. Remember, naturally occurring chemical processes create both water and wine. With molecular manufacturing, humans will have the ability to break and create chemical bonds at the precise location where chemical reactions occur. With the proper software application, a special purpose nanofactory, and the availability of all the elements necessary to form the chemical compounds most commonly found in wine, MM could easily transform water into wine.

Is it any wonder the world could be deceived?

Feeding 5,000 With 5 Loaves of Bread and Two Fish

Essentially every element necessary to create a loaf of bread or a fish is present in dirt. With the molecular blueprint for a fish or a loaf of bread, a nanofactory could rearrange the molecules found in a small pail of dirt (discarding those molecules which are unnecessary) and create a fish or a loaf of bread. With enough dirt, a person in possession of a nanofactory could feed five thousand people. In fact, the number of fish or loaves of bread that could be created is only limited by the amount of dirt available for use.

Now can you begin to see how the world could be deceived?

Miracles Molecular Manufacturing Can Not Counterfeit

However, despite its tremendous power, molecular manufacturing will never be able to replicate all the miracles of Christ. Pharaoh’s magicians derived great power from deception and trickery, but ultimately, their parlor tricks lacked the true power of God. In similar fashion, molecular manufacturing will enable humans to counterfeit some of God’s greatest miracles. But in the end, molecular manufacturing lacks true spiritual power. Its usefulness only applies to the physical world.

Let’s study some examples:

Casting Out Demons

The New Testament records that, on a number of occasions, Jesus cast out evil spirits. The Book of Mark provides one such account:

“Suddenly, a man in the synagogue who was possessed by an evil spirit began shouting, ‘Why are you interfering with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are – the Holy One sent from God!’ Jesus cut him short. ‘Be quiet! Come out of the man,’ he ordered. At that, the evil spirit screamed, threw the man into a convulsion, and then came out of him. Amazement gripped the audience, and they began to discuss what had happened. ‘What sort of new teaching is this?’ they asked excitedly. ‘It has such authority! Even evil spirits obey his orders!’ The news about Jesus spread quickly throughout the entire region of Galilee.” Mark 1:23-28 (NLT)

As the true Messiah, Jesus had total power over the spiritual realm. However, the power of molecular manufacturing is strictly confined to the physical world. And since this world is temporal in nature, its power is only a matter of perception. Its power is not real. Nevertheless, most of the world will be deceived by it.

Knowing this, why would the world place its faith in anyone but Jesus Christ?

Raising the Dead

Molecular manufacturing, with its ability to repair and regenerate human cells, tissues, and organs, will promise an indefinite extension of the human lifespan as well as perpetual youthful and healthy lifestyles. But again, this power will only extend to the physical world. True life comes from God, and once a person’s soul leaves his body, it belongs to Christ, whether or not that person acknowledges His power or not:

“And I assure you that the time is coming, indeed it’s here now, when the dead will hear my voice – the voice of the Son of God. And those who listen will live. The Father has life in himself, and he has granted that same life-giving power to his Son. And he has given him authority to judge everyone because he is the Son of Man. Don’t be so surprised! Indeed, the time is coming when all the dead in their graves will hear the voice of God’s Son, and they will rise again. Those who have done good will rise to experience eternal life, and those who have continued in evil will rise to experience judgment. I can do nothing on my own. I judge as God tells me. Therefore, my judgment is just, because I carry out the will of the one who sent me, not my own will.’” John 5:25-30 (NLT)

Knowing this, why would the world place its faith in anyone but Jesus Christ?

The Power to Forgive Sins

Molecular manufacturing will provide humanity with unprecedented power to manipulate what God has already created. But the earth remains cursed, and mankind still retains its sinful nature. As such, ability to control the physical world will have no bearing on man’s ability to overcome the sins of the world. Man and his technology are powerless in this respect. For as the Book of Mark demonstrates, only Jesus has the power to forgive sins:

“While he was preaching God’s word to them, four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat. They couldn’t bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, so they dug a hole through the roof above his head. Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus. Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, ‘My child, your sins are forgiven.’” Mark 2:2-5 (NLT)

No matter what level of power human beings achieve, forgiveness of sins will remain the exclusive domain of God. No matter how powerful humanity believes itself to be, it can never redeem itself in the eyes of God. Only the blood of Jesus Christ grants an individual forgiveness of his sins.

Knowing this, why would the world place its faith in anyone but Jesus Christ?

Conclusion

The end times will be a time of great spiritual darkness, cultivated by the demonic deceptions of the Antichrist. Molecular manufacturing could be one of the tools at his disposal, with its perceived ability to end war, cure physical ailments, and literally turn dirt into an abundance of material objects.

In such a world, it’s easy to see how people could be mesmerized by such power. But placing one’s faith in technology or human beings – or anything other than God Himself – leads only to destruction.

Unfortunately, this will be the choice of the end times generation. Human beings will become drunk with their own power, believing themselves to be superior to God Himself. This arrogant mindset combined with unimaginably powerful technology will eventually lead to a physical confrontation between fallen mankind and the King of kings, Jesus Christ. The prophet Isaiah foresaw this day, as well as the futility of those who would place their faith in that which is merely human:

“Don’t put your trust in mere humans. They are as frail as breath. What good are they?” Isaiah 2:22 (NLT)

This is a brilliant observation, instructive to any generation. Instead of placing your faith in fallen mankind and the material things of this world, put your faith in Jesus Christ. If you do, God promises you will not be disappointed:

“And anyone who believes in Him will never be disappointed.” 1 Peter 2:6 (NLT)

Is this the foundation upon which you’ve built your life? Or do you trust in the things of this world? If so, you’re only setting yourself up to be deceived.
